Oculoplasty Treatment In Patiala
What is Oculoplastic Surgery?
Ptosis Treatment in Patiala
Ptosis, or droopy eyelid, can happen for several reasons, including birth defects, injuries, muscle or nerve issues, or just aging. It can make you look tired and, in severe cases, block your vision. It might also cause you to wrinkle your forehead or tilt your head to see better.
In children under 8, severe ptosis can affect vision development and lead to a lazy eye. For adults, ptosis is often more of a cosmetic issue.
Surgery can fix this by repairing the muscle that lifts the eyelid. The type of surgery depends on how severe the droop is:
- Mild Droop: A simple procedure lifts the tissues from the back of the eyelid.
- Moderate Droop: The muscle that lifts the eyelid is tightened.
- Severe Droop: The eyelid is connected to the eyebrow muscle to help lift it.

What is Dacryology?
What is Dacryology?
Dacryology is the study of problems with the tear-drainage system. If your eyes water too much, it might be because there’s a blockage somewhere in this system, from the tear ducts to the nose.
Here’s how we handle these issues:
- For Blocked Tear Ducts: We use modern techniques to widen the tear ducts and help with drainage.
- In Children: We use methods like syringing, probing, and nasal endoscopy to clear blockages and treat any issues in the nasal cavity.
- In Adults: We create a new pathway for tears to drain into the nose if the normal duct is blocked.
DCR (Dacryocystorhinostomy): This surgery creates a new route for tears to drain from the tear sac to the nose by removing a small piece of bone. It’s done when the usual tear duct is blocked and can’t be fixed.
Socket & Orbito-facial Prosthesis
Losing an eye due to a tumor or injury can be very upsetting. Even though we might not be able to restore vision, we can help improve the appearance of the face and eyes.
Socket and Orbitofacial Prosthesis: is a specialized field in ophthalmic plastic surgery that focuses on creating and fitting prosthetic eyes and facial parts. This process helps make the face look as normal as possible after losing an eye.
At LJ Eye Institute – Patiala, we use high-quality materials to make custom prosthetic eyes. Instead of using a standard plastic eye, we take a detailed impression of your eye socket and create a personalized, painted artificial eye just for you. This ensures a better fit and a more natural look compared to using off-the-shelf options.

Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgery to fix problems with the eyelids or to improve their appearance. This procedure is done by making cuts along the natural lines of the eyelids, so scars are less visible. For the upper eyelid, the cuts are usually along the crease of the eyelid. For the lower eyelid, the cuts are made just below the eyelashes.
In some cases, the surgeon may make the cut inside the lower eyelid to avoid visible scars. This is called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty.
Thyroid Eye Disease
Thyroid problems can affect your eyes, leading to a condition called thyroid eye disease (TED). Symptoms of TED include swollen eyelids, eyes that stick out, trouble moving the eyes, and blurred vision. The disease usually has two stages:
- Active Phase: Lasts 6 to 18 months and involves symptoms getting worse. Treatment during this stage may include steroid medicines and eye lubricants. If vision worsens, a surgery called orbital decompression may be needed to relieve pressure on the eyes.
- Stable Phase: After the active phase, the disease often stabilizes, and symptoms may not worsen.

Ophthalmic Oncology
Ophthalmic Oncology deals with cancers that start in the eye and nearby areas. Tumors in the eye can be serious and affect both sight and overall health. They can be benign, like dermoid cysts, or malignant (cancerous), like retinoblastoma or lymphoma. In severe cases, where the tumor is very aggressive, the eye may need to be removed, and treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy might be required. After such treatments, eyelid reconstruction can help restore normal appearance and function.
In adults, eye tumors can be primary (starting in the eye), secondary (affecting nearby structures), or metastatic (spreading from other parts of the body). A CT scan is often used to check for these tumors.
Common Eyelid Problems
Drooping of the upper eyelid
Inflammation of the eyelids
Entropion: Inward turning of the eyelid
Ectropion: Outward turning of the eyelid
Eyelid Dermatitis: Allergic or irritant reaction on the eyelid skin
Chalazion: A blocked oil gland in the eyelid
