Eyes ICl Surgery in Ambala

Implantable Collamer Lens Surgery in Patiala

The main goal of ICL (Implantable Contact Lens) surgery is to fix vision problems and lessen the need for glasses or contact lenses. Unlike LASIK, ICL surgery doesn’t change the cornea’s structure, as no corneal flap is made or tissue is removed. The incision is very small, about 3.5 mm, which makes the procedure quicker and the recovery time shorter.

Who is the ideal candidate for ICL Surgery?

LASIK surgery isn’t right for everyone and has certain limitations. For example, people with thin corneas can’t have LASIK.

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery is a great alternative for those who can’t have LASIK or other laser treatments. It’s especially helpful for people with thin corneas, very high nearsightedness, or dry eyes.

Cornea Thickness

Why doctor deny some patients to do LASIK LASER Surgery and suggest them ICL Surgery?

When a patient visits our office for a LASIK screening, we first measure the thickness of the cornea. This is important because LASIK involves using a laser to remove some of the corneal tissue and reshape it. This helps focus images properly on the retina. Since we permanently remove part of the cornea during the procedure, it’s crucial to ensure enough tissue remains to keep the cornea strong and safe.

The cornea, the clear front part of your eye, usually measures between 520 and 540 microns in thickness, though it can range from 470 to 630 microns. For LASIK surgery, there needs to be enough corneal tissue to create a flap, reshape the cornea to fix vision problems, and still have enough tissue left to prevent the cornea from bulging out, a condition known as corneal ectasia.

If the cornea is too thin to leave enough tissue after creating the flap—around 300 microns—LASIK might not be suitable. At LJ Eye Institute – Patiala, a cornea specialist will check the thickness of your cornea to see if it meets the requirements for LASIK.

Benefits of ICL Surgery

In addition to improved vision, there are numerous benefits of an ICL:

  • It corrects severe nearsightedness that other surgeries might not fix.

  • The lens is less likely to cause dry eyes, ideal for those with chronic dryness.

  • It’s designed to be permanent but can be removed if needed.

  • The lens gives excellent vision at night.

  • Recovery is usually fast because no tissue is removed.

  • It’s a good option for people who can’t get laser eye surgery.

Who is not suitable for ICL?
You have moderate to severe nearsightedness, all the way up to -20.0. You have corneal thickness or mapping not adequate for LASIK or PRK. You are a patient under 45 years old
Is ICL surgery good or bad?
Excellent Safety Profile. The ICL has an excellent safety profile documented for almost three decades. Studies have reported that the ICL provides one of the best postoperative results of all refractive procedures available in current practice. Most trials report a patient satisfaction rate of over 99%.
When is ICL better than LASIK?
LASIK is generally considered a safe and effective procedure for correcting myopia, with most patients achieving 20/20 vision or better. Regarding implanted contacts v. LASIK, ICL is a more invasive procedure, but it is also more effective and is better for people with higher degrees of myopia.
How long can ICL last?
These internal contact lenses are designed to last 100 years, so they should last you the rest of your life. However, there is a significant advantage to ICL over LASIK – if, for some reason, you are unhappy with the results, implantable contact lens surgery can be removed, unlike laser eye surgery.
Can I cry after ICL surgery?
It’s okay to cry after your LASIK surgery. Whatever the reason you may want to cry, natural tears won’t harm your eyes or delay the healing process. Crying may actually keep your eyes lubricated and that helps the healing process. In fact, many patients cry immediately upon sitting up after LASIK.
Can you sleep with ICL?
This procedure can be done at your eye doctor’s office and usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. The EVO Visian ICL works similarly to a contact lens, except it’s a permanent part of your eye.
How long is vision blurry after ICL?
Immediately after ICL surgery, you’re likely to experience slight discomfort, bloodshot eyes, and blurry vision for a short time, from a few hours up to 48 hours.
How many days rest required after ICL?
Surgeons often ask patients to refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous activities for a week or two following ICL surgery. You’ll need to show progress in small tasks before your surgeon will allow more complicated activities like driving or full-time work.

ICL: Is it for everyone?

ICL surgery isn’t safe for everyone. When considering the procedure, talk to a doctor to determine if it’s right for you. The surgery may not be a good choice if you:

are pregnant or breastfeeding

are younger than 21 years old

are 45 and older

have a chronic disease that causes hormone fluctuations

are taking medicine associated with vision changes

have a condition that inhibits proper wound healing
